Repentence & Confession

Taking a different route
- Often we shall have to change the direction of our thinking and our wishing and our striving. That is what repentance really means - taking our bearings afresh and trying a new road."

Be honest with yourself
- Before God can deliver us we must undeceive ourselves.

JOHN THE BAPTIST
- The message of John the Baptist was that people should repent in anticipation of the Messiah's coming. The expectation was that he would not tolerate sinners and that those who did not repent would remain deaf to the message of Christ, who will 'baptize with the Holy Spirit' (Matthew 3:11). John demanded a change of heart in his people if they wanted to find spiritual salvation.

Absolving Sin
- You take the sinfulness from sinners, O Christ, and when we repent you make us welcome beside you.

Integral to faith
- There is no faith without repentance, and there is no church without repentance.

Just say it
- If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Wide range
- Repentance ranges from regretting obvious sins like murder...to the realization that not loving [your brother as yourself] is a murder. 'Whoever hates his brother is a murderer' (1 John 3:15), and that an evil look is adultery and the love of praise is stealing God's glory.

Through God's eye
- One of the most fundamental marks of true repentance is a disposition to see our sins as God sees them.

Teach me how
- Teach me how to repent for that's as good
As if tou handst seal'd my pardon, with thy blood.
